Is PHP alright for heavy image oriented web site?

April 30th, 2012 1 comment

A typical question about best windows hosting:

What’s the best approach to building a web site with many photo-quality images? Obviously, it might be best to download the images just once. This is a dynamic web site for an artist. I’m considering PHP on a Linux machine, but I’m also proficient in C, C++, JavaScript, C#, and Visual Basic. I’d be willing to use Perl if there is an advantage. I have company who will host a Windows machine if it is warranted.

Is there a big advantage to one approach of others in this scenario?

I need help connecting multiple PCs to LAN Diablo 2!?

April 29th, 2012 1 comment

A common question about best windows hosting:

Thank you to anyone that can help me in advance. My uncle, my cousin and I have played Diablo2 for several years over the TCP/IP option but we have never hooked up more than two computers to one game and now that we have my uncles best friend wanting to play we would like to get 3 to 4 computers set up.

At first we had a problem with the IP addresses my uncle’s pc and his sons IP addresses were 10.0.0.1 and .2 respectively and they connected to one another perfectly and I updated the games to have the most up to date patches available and somehow it reset 10.0.01 and its now 169.254.218.19 which connects to my computer at 169.254.95.1 but nobody can connect to 10.0.0.2 so we tried hooking up my uncles buddies computer which is 169.254.226.** I can’t remember the whole thing. At any rate my uncle’s friends computer can connect to mine but now my uncles son’s cannot connect to mine. Idk why but my computer seems to need to be the host which is fine, even though none of the other computers can connect to one another.

Now here is the trippy thing about how my uncle’s friend’s computer connects and my cousins does not. My uncle’s buddie’s pc is fine but my cousin’s cannot connect no matter what but it kinda connects. What I mean is that it is able to load the character’s screen and put the character into the game while its loading screen is still up. On every other computer it reads that so and so has entered the game and diablo’s minions grow stronger. However on my cousin’s pc whenever it is loading it will pause at the smallest last little sliver and then fail to connect and on every one else’s pc it replies ‘so and so’ dropped due to timeout.

I feel that we are so close to having what we want. I have tried a number of things like resetting the router and we tried to change the IP Addresses though we haven’t been able to figure that out. I’ve only got a few ideas as to what it could be such as: Not up to date Operating Systems or incompatible OS. Mine, the required host runs windows 7 and all the others run windows XP.

I also have a few ideas to what I can do to fix the problem like maybe trying to reinstall the games and making sure we use different product keys. Checking to be sure no firewalls prevent the pcs from connecting and finally trying to figure out how to change the IP Addresses around.

My uncle, his friend, my cousin and I will be eternally grateful to the skilled gamer who can solve this diledilemma are offering a reward of 100,000 internets.

whats wrong with my web server?

April 28th, 2012 1 comment

A common query about best windows hosting:

Well i know a computer isn’t the best thing to be using as a web server but when ever i try to go to the website using the link i made from dyndns.com it either (says: the connection to the server was reset, but the page was loaded) or if i do it on the local machine my router login pops up). I have tried these 3 programs to run it bizarre 2 server ,WAMP server, and networkactiv. And i edited the host file also. and ever since I chaned OS’s from xp to vista (I changed back to xp of course) im getting this problem it used to work now it doesn’t and i have the same exact OS i did when it worked. Does any one know whats wrong ? I’m guessing the hosting file in windows/system32/drivers/ect but i changed it so that i had my dyndns added to the internal ip ,external ip , and the localhost ip (127.0.0.1).

April 24th, 2012 1 comment

A typical query about best windows hosting:

im wondering how to set up a site like this:

http://www.simplemembershipsite.com/system.php

…and i am aware that i cannot just go online, without much website building knowledge, and put this all together in one night…Im just wondering what the most effective/ low cost way would be for me to get a site similar to this one up and running…i need a sales page with an option to join…when user clicks "join" i need it to redirect them to the payment processsing page…im planning on using either clickbank or paypal…after paying and being assigned a login ID/ password, i need a login page where current members can access the "members area"…once in the members area, i just need one page that has many different topics that users can click on, which would open a new window and contain the full article…who would be the best host for something like this? thank you very much…

Can you help me name our new business?

April 18th, 2012 4 comments

A frequently-asked question about best windows hosting:

I work for my father at our trophies awards and recognition business, Bux-Mont Awards. This business provides recognition solutions including corporate recognition awards and personalized gifts, youth sports recognition trophies, signage, both industrial and commemorative and a host of other engraving services. (we are versatile)

Anyways we outgrew the current manufacturing area where our showroom is and are moving our production into a new location on the other end of our block. We decided it would be best to keep the space we have our for our showroom for our display area because it has nice windows and is well suited for awards and trophy display. We also sell custom shirts that you can put your photographs on and traditional screen printing as well as products to promote your business or organization.

The place we are moving our production to also comes with a little showroom that we are going to use to display our high end personalized corporate gift line as well as our retail engravable gifts (think things remembered in the mall but way more affordable) and there is also going to be our digital imprinted line that includes mouse pads key chains, mugs, shirts etc as well. Can you help us come up with a name for it?

Bux-Mont Awards has been in business for 16 years and we have a well established customer base. We are looking to align new business as a division of Bux-Mont Awards so it resonates with the people who know us.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Our new retail is going to be more focused on the corporate gifts. Our awards and trophies will still keep the existing showroom and the name Bux-Mont Awards.

We are going to be focusing on things like engraving on cakeknives, winebottles, wedding gifts and invitations, high end desk clocks, engraved name blocks along with additional personalized gifts. As opposed to the awards and trophies.

There May Be A Problem With My DNS?

April 15th, 2012 1 comment

A common query about best windows hosting:

My laptop has built a in WiFi system. I am connected to a network, but my network will not connect to the internet. After diagnosing the problem, it states:

Windows attempted to find the best well known host www.microsoft.com using DNS. The server responded that the name was unknown.

First off, I would like to know what that means, and secondly, if there is a solution to the problem, please, I would like to know what it is. I do not want to wait a whole month of listening to my brother scream and yell because he keeps on having to share his computer.

Sharing a printer on wireless network?

April 14th, 2012 3 comments

A frequently-asked question about best windows hosting:

I have a D-Link wireless network connection for my DSL internet. The host computer has Windows XP Home. Two other computers have Windows 2000 Pro. I want to know how to set up a network for one printer connected to the host computer. I want to be able to print from any of the three computers to the one printer using my wireless connection. I have no idea, so the most detailed answer will be picked as best. I’m starting from scratch with no idea what I’m doing. I know how to view the status of my D-Link router connections. Please step-by-step instructions!!
Thanks in advance!!
I don’t know how to set up a network either. The XP Home computer is directly connected to the router on ethernet cable. The other two are receiving the wireless connection using wireless adaptors. Will the computers automatically detect the printer through my wireless connection program?
