There May Be A Problem With My DNS?

April 15th, 2012

A common query about best windows hosting:

My laptop has built a in WiFi system. I am connected to a network, but my network will not connect to the internet. After diagnosing the problem, it states:

Windows attempted to find the best well known host www.microsoft.com using DNS. The server responded that the name was unknown.

First off, I would like to know what that means, and secondly, if there is a solution to the problem, please, I would like to know what it is. I do not want to wait a whole month of listening to my brother scream and yell because he keeps on having to share his computer.

Answer: This is quite a popular question. If you are you looking to host your website using a Windows platform, do not fall for the marketing trap saying cheap Linux servers are able to handle ASP or ASP.net applications using the apache module. Ask yourself – do you absolutely need a Windows hosting? Web hosting is one of the most important part of your online presence and can mean the life or death to your business.

Before we give you an absolute answer, these are seven qualities to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:

  2. lets you try their service for free or at very low price,
  3. gives more-than-enough diskspace,
  4. offers unlimited bandwidth,
  5. has easy-to-use Site Builder with more than 4500 free website design templates to choose from,
  6. has Application Vault to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
  7. can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

Warnings about Hostgator

A word of warning – Hostgator may not be for everyone. Shortcomings of Hostgator include:

  1. No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. HG chargers $15 for a domain name.
  2. You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost.

To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. If you are still unsure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable.

    DNS = Domain Name Server

The internet uses DNS Servers to translate domains names into IP addresses.

you may know a website as www.google.com, however your computer knows it as, and when you type www.google.com, your computer has to query a DNS server for the IP address.

Well, if your computer doesnt have the IP address of a Valid DNS server, this query will fail.

Go to your network settings in control panel and look for the ethernet settings your using, and check to see if the DNS address is valid ( you can get a valid DNS address by contacting your ISP )….

type in the correct address and reboot your computer, it should work…
