video file format that works best on all platforms?

A common question about best windows hosting:

i am showing a video clip to a class. what do you think is the best format to save it in so the host computer can read it? i work on a mac and i’m playing it back on a windows computer. i don’t want to have to download codecs and software just so it can be played back. i’m leaning towards quicktime (.mov), is that okay (i’m rendering it in after effects)?

Answer: You are not alone. Many people made the wrong choice of hosting because they think that cheap Linux servers are able to handle ASP or ASP.net applications using the apache module. The truth is, to date, ASP and ASP.NET are fully usable only on Windows or Microsoft hosting servers. So do you really need a Windows hosting? Web hosting is one of the most important part of your online presence and can mean the success and failure for your business.

Before we answer your question, let us review the 7 features to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:

  1. has knowledgable Live Chat to help you clear your confusion about which hosting plan is right for you,
  2. has at least 30 days money back guarantee,
  3. gives unlimited webspace,
  4. offers unlimited bandwidth,
  5. has friendly Site Builder with more than 4500 free website design templates to choose from,
  6. has Application Vault to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
  7. can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

Answering your question, many experienced web developers suggest to try Hostgator. If you need an “unlimited” hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best best domain host around.

Try to read any review that says Hostgator sucks. Most of them probably tried to abuse the generous resources given by Hostgator. Warnings about Hostgator

A word of warning – Hostgator may not be for everyone. Shortcomings of Hostgator include:

  1. No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. HG chargers $15 for a domain name.
  2. You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost.

To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. If you are still unsure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable.

.move files are fine but I know alot of machines dont have quicktime so if you want to install it before class that would work fine. Also Mpeg files will work but whatever format you choose make sure and test it on the machine a day before class. Thats hurt me in the past.

Using .mpeg is your best option if the computer runs on Windows. Not all computers are .mov compatible, they may not have Quicktime. I would use .mpeg if you have that option, which means they would be Windows Media files.

mpeg will work in Quicktime on Mac and PC.

After effects is fine as long as you export to QT.

    AVI.

Most O/S-es can play it with their own built-in media player.
